Join our free workshop on 5 March 4pm at SIKKA Art + Design Festival 2023

In 90 minutes, SIKKA visitors with no experience necessary are given abstract tools to create a short scene loosely inspired a story by Emile Zola. Players practice transforming simple objects like cloth + sticks to dramatize a wild flashback – from making sausages in a delicatessen in the heart of Paris to a great escape off a remote tropical island. With a lot of imagination and some good teamwork, groups bring a 19th century to life with a modern twist. As players re/create snakes, trees, boats, a tumultuous sea… everyone’s imagination is exercised.

Players are given abstract objects + provided:

  • Samplings of object-use + movement
  • Selected props + character descriptions
  • Scenario to develop/adaptation (+ costumes)

Participants experiment with:

  • Object-transformation
  • Creative group movement
  • Ad-libbing

+ apply their findings to devise a scene.

This free experimental theatre workshop is designed for adults 18 +. All materials are provided (even some optional costumes). Ideally, players play best in comfy attire.

Please keep checking here for location updates. Meeting point at 4pm March 5 is Courtyard A, near House 11 + movie screen, in Bastakiya – al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood.
